Barry Sanders transferring to Oklahoma State

Barry Sanders is following in his father's footsteps.

The former Stanford running back will transfer to his father's alma mater, Oklahoma State, he told Kyle Fredrickson of the Oklahoman Thursday.

"They've got my full commitment and I'm looking forward to being there come late June," said Sanders.

Sanders Sr., the Detroit Lions legend and Pro Football Hall-of-Famer, planted the seeds for his extraordinary career at Oklahoma State, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1988 in one of the most impressive seasons ever put together by a collegiate running back.

His son, a senior running back, was granted release from the Cardinal in January and will enroll with the Cowboys as a graduate transfer in his final year of eligibility.

Sanders was a four-star running back in 2012 and picked Stanford over Oklahoma State, but in the end, he found his way back to where his father began his legacy.

"I think that he would have wanted me to look at more schools. He definitely didn't want me to make a decision without considering other options. What I told him was that this was something I've been thinking about for some time. I just knew this was the right decision and the right fit for a variety of different reasons."

The Oklahoma City native had been somewhat lost in the fold during his time at Stanford, accumulating 672 yards and five touchdowns on 115 carries in his three years there.
