Duke head coach David Cutcliffe has named Ben Albert his associate defensive coordinator.

Albert joins the Blue Devils after spending three seasons as Boston College's defensive line coach. He'll serve alongside defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, and will also work with the defensive line.

"Ben brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of defensive football and recruiting to our staff," Cutcliffe said. "Obviously, we know his work with the Boston College defense all too well from a season ago when we couldn't have been more impressed with their preparation and execution.

"You don't lead the country in total defense by accident - you have to have a combination of outstanding players and exceptional coaches."

Last season, the Eagles led the nation in total defense, third-down conversion defense, and tackles for loss per game. He also led the defense to a top five ranking in rushing defense, scoring defense, and passing efficiency defense.
