Big 12 no closer to championship game, expansion

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The Big 12 appears no closer to adding a conference championship game than it did three weeks ago when it gained the right to host one.

Athletic directors from the Big 12's members met Thursday to address issues facing the conference. Among them was the potential addition of a conference title game, but commissioner Bob Bowlsby told reporters such a bout is "unlikely" to take place in 2016.

The other hot button subject in the Big 12 - expansion - also seems no closer to coming to fruition, despite Oklahoma president David Boren's constant campaign for it.

Altogether, it seems that the athletic directors didn't accomplish a whole lot Thursday.

The Big 12 members' presidents are set to meet Friday.
