Report: Florida's Nussmeier not joining Southern Miss

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, long believed to be a leading candidate for the head coaching job at Southern Miss, will remain with the Gators.

According to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, Nussmeier didn't feel as though the situation at Southern Miss was right for him.

Prior to joining Florida in 2015, he spent time as the offensive coordinator at Fresno State, Washington, Alabama, and Michigan, winning a national title with the Tide in 2012.

In eight seasons as an offensive coordinator, he's produced seven 1,000-yard rushers, most recently Florida's Kelvin Taylor, who rushed for 1,035 yards last season.

Southern Miss is still looking to replace Todd Monken, who left last weekend to become the Tamba Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator.
