BYU offensive coordinator Robert Anae announced Wednesday that he will follow coach Bronco Mendenhall to Virginia and fill the same position with the Cavaliers.
"I am excited to join coach Mendenhall and work to win an ACC championship," Anae told Dick Harmon of the Deseret News. "I am extremely appreciative of having received this opportunity and that my talents and skills are appreciated at Virginia."
Anae said he felt "underwhelmed" by the interest shown in his abilities after Mendenhall announced he was leaving for Virginia.
He added that he'll bring three other coaches with him to Charlottesville: Offensive line coach Garett Tujague, running backs coach Mark Atuaia, and quarterbacks coach Jason Beck.
The coordinator announced his departure to the team Wednesday, in what wide receiver Mitch Matthews called a "very short, but very heartfelt" meeting.
Under Anae, BYU led the nation in red zone scoring this season until a victory formation at the end of the regular season finale pushed the Cougars out of the top spot.
Anae and Mendenhall will both remain with the Cougars through the team's bowl game on Dec. 23.
