Report: Georgia GOP recruiting Mark Richt to run for governor

Apparently, Mark Richt's future may not be limited to football.

The former Georgia head coach is reportedly being courted by members of the Georgia Republican party to run for governor in 2018, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Greg Bluestein.

It's not that it won't happen, but it'll likely take a lot to pull him away from football.

According to Richt himself, the long-time Bulldogs coach, who was fired on Sunday, has been approached by several schools who are looking to fill a coaching vacancy.

Not to mention, his friends don’t expect him to make the leap into politics because, frankly, he doesn't really like it.

"Coach Richt doesn’t seem to really enjoy politics, and I would be absolutely stunned if he ran for any political office," said Tim Echols, a member of the state Public Service Commission who goes to church with Richt. "He loves coaching young men, building their lives and having an impact on them on and off the field. He doesn’t seem to have any interest in politics."
