Florida State shuts down Florida to close out regular season

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Florida State's defense came to play Saturday, thwarting Florida's offensive attack with an impressive 27-2 win in The Swamp.

In a game where both teams struggled to move the ball, Seminoles running back Dalvin Cook was the difference maker, finishing the game with 183 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Gators running back Kelvin Taylor was the lone spark for an anemic Florida offense, rushing for 136 yards on 24 carries.
  • Seminoles quarterback Sean Maguire struggled, finishing 14-for-28 with 160 yards and one touchdown.
  • Florida quarterback Treon Harris couldn't find a rhythm for the second week in a row, finishing 19-for-38 with a measly 134 yards passing.
  • Florida receiver Demarcus Robinson was suspended prior to kickoff for a violation of team rules.
  • The Gators now lead the all-time series 34-24-2, but Jimbo Fisher has led the Seminoles to victory in five of the last six matchups.

Play of the Game

Cook closes out the game with a 29-yard touchdown scamper, his 18th score of the season.

Up next, Florida will take on Alabama in the SEC Championship, while Florida State awaits its bowl game opponent after a 10-2 season.
