TCU overcomes rain, Baylor in double OT

TCU versus Baylor was supposed to be a shootout. Instead, it was an ugly, rain-soaked affair that featured punts, punts, and more punts. Ultimately, the No. 19 Horned Frogs overcame the No. 7 Bears in double overtime 28-21, with an 8-yard touchdown catch by KaVontae Turpin from Trevone Boykin proving to be the difference.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Baylor pulled ahead of TCU 21-14 in the first overtime on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Chris Johnson to Devin Chafin. However, TCU responded with a 1-yard touchdown scamper from Boykin to tie it and force another frame.
  • Speaking of Boykin, the Horned Frogs' star pivot returned to the lineup after sitting out last week's game against Oklahoma. He finished the night 18-for-33 for 148 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick.
  • The Horned Frogs and Bears combined for 21 points in the first quarter, and TCU scored a touchdown early in the second to tie the game 14-14. From there, any semblance of offense evaporated, as the next points of the game didn't come until overtime.
  • Both offenses looked inept after TCU's game-tying score early in the second, and both seemed obsessed with throwing deep passes, despite the wet conditions and inability to make the big play.
  • Speaking of the passing game, Johnson did not complete a single pass in the third and fourth quarters for the Bears.
  • The punters got their workouts in Friday night. Baylor punter Drew Galitz punted 10 times for 401 yards, while TCU punter Ethan Perry knocked 12 punts for 454 yards.
  • The sloppy affair featured seven turnovers, five of which came from Baylor.
  • Baylor wideout Corey Coleman was held out of the end zone for the third straight game.
  • The loss kills any chance Baylor still had of cracking the College Football Playoff.

Play of the Game

TCU linebacker Ty Summers made the decisive tackle to end the game on Baylor's fourth-and-1 attempt. It was his 23rd tackle of the game.

Baylor wraps up its regular season against Texas on Dec. 5, while TCU will rest up and wait for a bowl game invitation.
