Washington signs Chris Petersen to 2-year extension

Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Petersen has signed a two-year contract extension with Washington, the team announced Thursday. The extension keeps the 51-year-old with the Huskies through the 2020 season.

Petersen is 13-12 in two years with Washington after arriving from Boise State to take over the position following Steve Sarkisian's jump to USC.

The extension will pay Petersen $4 million per season for the added two years on the contract. That's the same total he'll receive in 2018, which was the last season of his original five-year agreement.

While the Huskies have sat around the .500 mark throughout his 25-game tenure, Petersen has recruited an extremely young roster, with 52 freshmen and 24 sophomores.

Washington faces off against No. 20 Washington State in the annual Apple Cup on Friday afternoon.
