Virginia Tech's Michael Brewer not cleared to play vs. NC State

Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Brewer was not cleared by doctors and will not play Friday night against NC State, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

Brewer broke his collarbone in the season opener against Ohio State and has not played since. He returned to practice earlier this week and the Hokies were optimistic that he would be ready to go Friday against the Wolfpack.

"While Michael was able to throw and participate fully in practice this week, our medical team agrees that an additional week of practice without contact is the most prudent course of action and we have not cleared him medically for tonight's game," Mike Goforth, Virginia Tech's associate athletics director for sports medicine, said in a statement.

With Brewer still sidelined, Brenden Motley once again gets the start for the Hokies.

Motley has thrown for 861 yards with seven touchdowns and five picks over parts of five games this season.
