Rutgers' Kyle Flood: 'I will be coaching' in the season opener

Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood sounds like a confident man in light of some serious allegations.

"I will be coaching the game on Saturday," Flood told reporters following Thursday's practice.

The fourth-year head coach is the subject of an ongoing investigation into whether he defied school policy in an attempt to get one of his players academically eligible to play.

His announcement came roughly an hour before five of his players were arrested on campus and charged with assault. They were also suspended indefinitely by athletic director Julie Hermann.

One of those players is Nadir Barnwell, who is at the focal point of the university-led investigation into Flood.

The head coach could face penalties ranging from a suspension to termination if found in violation of a school policy prohibiting coach-initiated contact with a professor regarding a student-athlete's grade.

It's unknown if he had any involvement with the arrests that happened shortly after his press conference.

However, for the time being, it appears Flood will be on the sidelines for Week 1.

"I have no reason to believe I will not be coaching on Saturday," Flood said.
