5 Rutgers players arrested and charged with assault, suspended indefinitely

Police have arrested and charged five Rutgers players with assaulting a group of individuals in an unprovoked attack, according to NJ.com's Keith Sargeant.

Nadir Barnwell, Ruhann Peele, Delon Stephenson, Razohnn Gross, and Andre Boggs were charged with aggravated assault, riot, and conspiracy to commit a riot. A 19-year-old male student suffered a broken jaw in the incident.

Boggs was charged in two home-invasion robberies in April and May.

Athletic director Julie Hermann released a statement, indefinitely suspending the players from the program.

"The students involved are currently suspended from our program,'' Hermann said. "We continue to monitor the situation. We will have no further comment as this is a pending legal matter.''

Barnwell is the player at the center of the university-led investigation into head coach Kyle Flood, who defied school policy in an attempt to get him academically eligible to play.

According to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, the arrests stem from an investigation that began last spring, when police were called to a home invasion on April 26.

The incident, which occurred just prior to midnight, was reported after three masked men forced their way into the home and held five students at gunpoint as they stole an undisclosed amount of cash and marijuana.

The next night, police determined that Boggs and another man, Tejay Johnson, forced their way into a second home, armed with a bat, and a knife, stealing roughly $900 and marijuana.

Johnson was also one of the men charged Thursday when it was deemed he was involved in the unprovoked attack.
