Michigan's Bryan Mone suffers broken bone in leg, likely out for season

Michigan defensive tackle Bryan Mone suffered a broken bone earlier in camp and will likely miss the 2015 season, Jim Harbaugh announced Thursday.

Harbaugh noted that it was a freak injury, suffered when Mone was attempting to block on a return following a blocked field goal.

"Freak play, never seen it before in practice or games," Harbaugh said. "We blocked a field goal attempt, the ball came onto the defensive side of the ball, which we shouldn't be returning that ball. Unfortunately that teaching moment came with one of our players picking it up, running around the edge, and Bryan was trying to lead block for him and they got their feet tangled up.

"When Bryan went down to the ground, his toe came down at an inopportune angle, and unfortunately a bone broke."

Mone was slated to get plenty of playing time this season in a rotational role on the Wolverines' defensive line. He played in five games last year as a true freshman, making nine tackles.
