Florida State's Roberto Aguayo: 'Drive to be the best' motivates me

Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo remembers vividly all four of his missed field goals from the 2014 season.

But the redshirt junior is hardly dwelling on the few blemishes that marked an otherwise spectacular campaign. Instead, he simply recalls them for postgame analysis sessions where he attempted to understand just exactly what went wrong.

"It's unfortunate, but like I said, they don't happen that often," Aguayo said of those misses during ACC Kickoff, as transcribed by ACCSports.com. "When they do happen, I process and move on. I analyze what I did wrong, if I could have done better, if I could have prepared better for that day, and just move on and get better from it."

The Mascotte, Fla. product emerged as one of college football's premier kickers in 2014, nailing 92 percent of his attempted field goals and going a perfect 55-of-55 on extra point converts. The 136 points he scored for the Seminoles ranked eight overall in the country and second among kickers.

As for what motivates Aguayo - who just so happens to play for a perennial national contender - it all boils down to simply being the greatest kicker in the sport.

"Just the drive to be the best . You know, growing up, my father, every day that I woke up, called me Champ. After hearing it so many times you become part of that lifestyle," he said of his motivation. "Arguably most of you all consider me the best in the country. I just got to keep that going, keep getting better, keep getting better in every facet of the game."
