Report: Potential Baylor-Cal 2016 match in Australia called off

College football thunder may not be coming to the Land Down Under anymore.

The proposed 2016 game between Baylor and California has reportedly been called off, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

It was reported, earlier in June, that the Baylor Bears were in negotiations for a potential season-opening matchup in Australia in 2016, likely against a Pac-12 team. The Baylor Rivals.com website, which was the first to report on the possibility of an Australia game, pointed to the Cal Golden Bears as the team in Baylor's crosshairs.

Fox Sports reported in June that Baylor's athletic director confirmed in an ESPN radio interview that Baylor had proposed to open the 2016 season overseas, so another destination could be in the works.

Baylor is set to open the upcoming season against SMU on Sept. 4 in Dallas, Texas.
