Auburn and Oregon will face off on the football field in the 2019 opener for both programs, per an announcement from both schools Tuesday.

The Tigers and Ducks have met only once on the football field – Auburn's 22-19 win the in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game.

Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs was out promoting the schools' up-tempo styles, which adds to the intrigue of the matchup.

"Auburn and Oregon are two of the cool teams right now," Jacobs said on The Paul Finebaum Show, as transcribed by AL.com. "The kids want to play for us because we're fun and we're fast."

The Tigers will find themselves in another marquee matchup to open this upcoming season, taking on Louisville at the Georgia Dome on Sept. 5.

With only one remaining slot for a potential neutral-site matchup in the next seven seasons coming in 2018, the program is eyeing another big-name opponent at a neutral site.

"We've made some progress, but we haven't inked a deal," Jacobs told Greg Ostendorf of ESPN. "We're going to make sure we get an exciting matchup just like we did for 2019. We're going to make sure it's exciting for our players and our students and our fans."
