Ole Miss' Laremy Tunsil arrested for punching stepfather, allegedly in defense of mother

Ole Miss left tackle Laremy Tunsil was arrested on domestic violence charges on Friday, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

McMurphy reports that Tunsil was at his mother Desiree's house on Thursday when his stepfather, Lindsey Miller, allegedly shoved Desiree and Laremy punched him in her defense.

Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze said that the offensive lineman and his mother have since pressed charges against Miller. The Oxford Police Department spokeswoman said that they could not confirm that they have pressed charges.

"We can confirm that Laremy Tunsil turned himself in and was arrested for a misdemeanor, domestic violence-simple assault," Freeze said in a statement given to ESPN. "The incident occurred Thursday night and involves Laremy defending his mother against his stepfather.

"Laremy realizes he could have handled it differently, but I am proud of him for standing up for his mother and protecting his family. ... As we gather more facts, we will act and make decisions accordingly."

For his part, Miller told The Clarion-Ledger that he denies he pushed Tunsil's mother and claims he was hit six or seven times in the incident that was started by the offensive lineman. He has been granted a restraining order that also protects his two sons from Tunsil.

Considered one of the top lineman nationally, Tunsil broke his leg and dislocated his ankle in Ole Miss' Peach Bowl defeat to TCU on Dec. 31.

The police spokeswoman said that the Tunsil's arrest report would be available to the public on Monday.
