Mike Slive: SEC to propose legislation to NCAA to ban satellite camps

SEC commissioner Mike Slive said at the conference's annual spring meetings that the conference will propose national satellite camp legislation to the NCAA that would mirror the SEC's ban on the practice.

Satellite camps have been a contentious issue in SEC circles for some time, and the matter has only been magnified with other leagues having set up camps in the Southeast this summer.

As other conferences have not expressed any desire to change the NCAA's rule, the SEC would need to change its own rule and permit the practice to level the playing field.

Incoming commissioner Greg Sankey said if the national satellite camp ban were to not pass, the SEC would likely adjust to "the competitive landscape."

However, Sankey did express optimism the legislation would pass.

"If you really take a look at the scope of football recruiting," Sankey said. "I think it has a fair chance of passing."
