Abdullah, Varga shine for North All-Stars in Senior Bowl victory

John David Mercer / USA TODAY Sports

After losing to the South All-Stars 20-10 last year, the North All-Stars were the team to watch in this year's Senior Bowl, taking the annual college football showcase 34-13 at the Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

The North kept things close in the first half, taking a 10-7 lead on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion to Notre Dame tight end Ben Koyack. The South responded with a field goal to tie it up 10-10 to start the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, however, it was all Tyler Varga, as the Kitchener, Ont. native and Yale running back registered two touchdowns to give the North a definitive lead over the South that would seal the victory.

Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah was named Senior Bowl MVP, recording 73 rushing yards on seven carries and 40 receiving yards on four receptions for the North.
