Utah takes Las Vegas Bowl with decisive win over Colorado State

Joe Camporeale / USA TODAY Sports

Colorado State couldn't stop the bleeding.

Utah cruised to a 45-10 win in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday in a one-sided affair.

The Utes, led through the air and on the ground by quarterback Travis Wilson, scored two first-quarter touchdowns and never looked back.

The junior threw for 158 yards and one touchdown, but it was his ground game that merits all the credit. Wilson rushed for 91 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries.

Running back Devontae Booker broke the ice with a 60-yard touchdown run one play after the Rams scored on a trick play. He rushed for 162 yards on 26 carries.

Colorado State was playing its first game without Mountain West Coach of the Year Jim McElwain, who took Florida's head coaching job - and it showed.

Rams quarterback Garrett Grayson threw for 227 yards, one interception and no touchdowns, although he scored the team's only touchdown in the first quarter.

But the offense wasn't clicking beyond that, getting shut out for three quarters in the hands of interim coach and offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin.

The Rams rushed for 12 yards compared to Utah's 359. The Utes also outgained Colorado State 548 to 278.
