How Missouri's win over Arkansas could make a no-bid SEC a reality

Ever since the College Football Playoff system was instituted, there have been cries from SEC country for two and even three bids for the conference in the inaugural playoff.

With Missouri now through to the conference title game, a no-bid SEC is looking more and more like a possibility.

The road is simple: if one of Alabama or Mississippi State lose on Saturday, then Missouri wins the SEC title game, the SEC wouldn't have a single one-loss team, and the only playoff candidate coming off a win would be Missouri.

The committee has been looking for an excuse to put Baylor ahead of TCU in order to honor its assertion that conference titles will be valued above all else.

For that reason, the committee would have an awfully tough time leapfrogging a two-loss Missouri squad ahead of the likes of Oregon, Florida State, Ohio State, and TCU or Baylor, each of which figure to have conference championships of their own.

The SEC has been the best conference in the land this season. But it may be too strong for its own good.
