Florida State overcomes 21-point deficit to avoid upset at Louisville

Andrew Weber / USA TODAY Sports

Second-ranked Florida State found itself down 21-0 at Louisville on Thursday night, but the Seminoles fought back to avoid the upset and walk away with a 42-31 win.

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston completed 25-of-48 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions. The performance marked the sixth time Winston has topped the 350-yard mark in his career, tying him with Chris Weinke for most in school history.

Seminoles running back Karlos Williams had a better game against Louisville than two weeks ago against Notre Dame, carrying the ball 16 times for 72 yards with an average of 4.5 yards per tote.

Although the Cardinals suffered the loss, Louisville running back Michael Dyer lit up the field. He ran for 134 yards and three touchdowns and was one of the game's top performers.

Florida State hosts Virginia next Saturday at 6:30 pm ET.
