Georgia to appeal Gurley's 4-game suspension

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia will appeal running back Todd Gurley's four-game suspension.

The school announced its decision Wednesday morning.

The university pushed for the NCAA to accept a two-game suspension which would have meant Gurley could play vs. Florida Saturday, FOX Sports reports.

Moreover, the NCAA membership committee that oversees the reinstatement process will review the appeal this week, ESPN reports. The committee can reduce or remove the conditions the staff has imposed, but cannot increase them.

Gurley hasn't played since October 4 vs. Vanderbilt. The NCAA said the star running back received the cash for signing memorabilia and other items over two years, and must repay a portion of the money he received to a charity of his choice and also complete 40 hours of community service as conditions of his reinstatement.
