Georgia seeks reinstatement for Todd Gurley

Georgia fans may get to retire their "Free Gurley" signs and chants sooner than they expected.

Georgia will apply to the NCAA for suspended running back Todd Gurley to be reinstated on Wednesday, the university said in an official statement

The Heisman Trophy candidate has been suspended since Oct. 9 while school officials investigated allegations that he was paid for signing memorabilia. The investigation is now complete. The university says it has supported Gurley and cooperated with his legal counsel.

“I want to thank the University, coaches, teammates, and the Bulldog Nation for their patience and support,” Gurley said in a statement. “I take full responsibility for the mistakes I made, and I can’t thank the University, my coaches, and teammates enough for supporting me throughout this process. I’m looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates.”

Georgia expects a prompt ruling by the NCAA so that the team will have enough time to prepare for their next game against Florida on Nov. 1.
