Georgia Tech is staying on the cutting edge of technology by allowing students to pay for their concessions with bitcoin, thus becoming first university to integrate the virtual currency into its stadium and throughout its campus.

The school announced Wednesday that it will begin accepting bitcoin at point of sale devices located in the student section of Bobby Dodd Stadium as part of the BitPay venture, which will also allow students to use bitcoin throughout the Tech campus.

“We look forward to working with BitPay to make bitcoin a viable payment option for our students and fans,” Georgia Tech athletic director Mike Bobinski said in the school's statement.

“At Georgia Tech, we are always looking to lead in innovative ways, and this partnership with BitPay gives us an opportunity to do so by integrating this new technology at a sports venue and in the daily lives of our students."

Fans can test the bitcoin system on Saturday when the Yellow Jackets host the Miami Hurricanes.
