FSU's Jimbo Fisher takes blame for pregame confusion with Jameis Winston

John David Mercer / USA TODAY Sports

Before No. 1 Florida State escaped Clemson with a 23-17 win, Jameis Winston made headlines for participating in the pregame warm up.

Winston was given an earful by head coach Jimbo Fisher as he was sent to the locker room to change into his street clothes. But on Monday, Fisher said it wasn't his quarterback's fault.

"That was a miscommunication between us and the (equipment staff) because, with the late-night (full-game) suspension, he was scheduled to dress and the stuff was put out in the locker room when he went to dress," Fisher said, via ESPN. "He assumed he was going to dress for warm-ups and went out, and I never saw it. It got miscommunicated."

Fisher added that Winston responded positively when told to return to the locker room and change out of his uniform. Winston also provided a strong influence for backup quarterback Sean Maguire and aided him in his first career start.

It also appeared as though Fisher called over Winston mid-game and said something along the lines of "my fault."

Winston will be back under center for the Seminoles on Saturday when they take on NC State.
