Reading List: Reaction to Jameis Winston's vulgar comment

Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston apologized Wednesday for his obscene comment made on campus, and the Seminoles announced that he would be suspended for the first half of Saturday's game against No. 22 Clemson.

The media had plenty to say about Winston's minor suspension. Here are links to some of the best columns in reaction to Winston's actions:

Yahoo's Pat Forde on Florida State's "half-baked" punishment:

Florida State’s decision to suspend star quarterback Jameis Winston for a half against Clemson Saturday is the first football playing time he will miss at the school for disciplinary reasons. The cumulative effect of the Heisman Trophy winner’s recurring judgment lapses finally became too much for the school to overlook, brush aside or peddle off to the baseball team.

It is, frankly, about time. But it’s not enough time.

FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman wonders if Winston has learned anything from this and past experiences:

Has Winston actually learned from anything he’s been through in the past year?

Right now, it doesn’t seem like it. When Winston tosses out a line about “overcoming adversity” at Florida State, he misses the entire point of what FSU’s coaches mean. This is not an injury or some factor out of the Seminoles’ control. This is all Winston’s doing — he creates his own adversity and has become his own worst enemy. When he stops building his own messes to be cleaned up, then we’ll finally have our answer.

USA Today Sports' Mike Foss thinks Florida State has an accountability problem when it comes to Winston:

This latest incident also proves that Florida State has no interest in holding him responsible or ensuring that when he does make the jump to the NFL, he’s equipped with maturity he sorely needs. Instead, the Seminoles will go without him for half of a game they should win regardless of whether Winston is on the field.
