The fifth-ranked Auburn Tigers will be without safety Jermaine Whitehead when they play the 20th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats on Thursday night.

Whitehead did not travel with the team on Wednesday and will miss the game, a school spokesman confirmed to AL.com.

The senior got into a verbal altercation with a coach and was suspended, sources told Auburn Undercover

Whitehead's status beyond the upcoming game is reportedly uncertain. He started at 14 games for the Tigers at free safety last season, finishing with 65 tackles. He is fourth on the team with 12 tackles this season.

He returned an interception for a touchdown in Auburn's season-opening win over Arkansas.
