Duke linemen get 'good' MRI results following scare

Mark Dolejs / USA TODAY Sports

For a moment, the future looked grim for two Duke players, but now there's a collective sigh of relief among Blue Devils fans.

Duke is on the cusp of cracking the Top 25, so when left guard Lucas Patrick and defensive end Dezmond Johnson were carted off the field simultaneously with leg injuries during Saturday's 41-3 win over Kansas, there was widespread concern.

But according to the News & Observer, coach David Cutcliffe came out this week and assured the Duke faithful that both players are doing well and that the injuries aren't as serious as initially feared.

“We did get good MRI results on both of them,” Cutcliffe said. “So, I know enough to tell you that. I don’t know enough to give you timetables. Dezmond is probably behind Lucas. We’re still letting treatment settle in.”

Duke is preparing to play its next game without them, however. Redshirt junior Cody Robinson will fill Patrick's place at left guard, while Kyler Brown will step in at defensive end.
