Minnesota's Mitch Leidner to miss next game

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner will likely miss Saturday's contest against San Jose State.

The sophomore is currently dealing with a turf toe injury, College Football Talk reported

“I would never play anybody that was 82.9,” Minnesota's coach Jerry Kill said on Tuesday. “I’m not going to risk a kid or a quarterback or anything like that.”

Leidner was injured early in the fourth quarter Saturday and replaced by freshman Chris Streveler. Before he went out, he threw three interceptions in the Golden Gophers' 30-7 loss to TCU.

“They’ve got to be cleared by the trainer,” Kill said. “I always tell the trainer, ‘Can he play full speed?’ Because this is a full-speed game.”
