UNC's Landon Turner won't play Saturday vs. East Carolina

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

North Carolina guard Landon Turner will miss the Tar Heels' contest on Saturday against East Carolina.

On Monday, UNC announced that the redshirt junior has an undisclosed injury and would miss at least the team's next game, via CBS Sports

Turner, a starter since late in the 2012 season, has played in every game this year. Freshman Jared Cohen will step in to his spot against ECU.

UNC's coach Larry Fedora said his team's competition would be stiff this weekend, because he thinks ECU's squad is the best he's seen over his seven years.

He's likely right, too. ECU has been a pleasant surprise this year, particularly after a convincing 28-21 win over then-No. 17 Virginia Tech. Behind standout quarterback Shane Carden, the Pirates' offense hasn't stuttered yet. Carden's 1,031 total yards on the season currently places him along with BYU's Taysom Hill and Ole Miss's Bo Wallace in the leaders category.

Meanwhile, UNC currently places 25th in both the USA Today Poll Top 25 and the AP Coaches Poll Top 25. The Tar Heels currently sit at 2-0 after victories over Liberty and San Diego State.
