Texas player apologizes for coin-toss screw up

Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

Texas defensive tackle Desmond "Tank" Jackson apologized for his role in Saturday's pre-game coin-toss mishap that ultimately gave UCLA the ball to begin both halves.

Jackson thought that Texas had lost the coin toss, and immediately elected to kick. He didn't know that UCLA had already deferred to Texas, so the Bruins received the ball to begin both halves.

They ended up scoring on their opening drive in the second half.

Early Tuesday morning, Jackson took to Twitter to express his regret.

Texas's coach Charlie Strong was less than pleased on the sideline following the fiasco. After the game he told reporters that "nerves" contributed to Jackson's mistake.

"I said, 'What happened?' He said, 'I don't know, Coach. I was just so hyped up," said Strong

The first-year coach for Texas made other headlines on Saturday for his enthusiastic, fist-pump filled celebration following a Tyrone Swoopes touchdown pass.
