Postponed UCF-Memphis game to be played Sept. 30
The UCF-Memphis game that was postponed last week due to Hurricane Irma will be played Sept. 30 in Orlando, ensuring that the teams will play eight conference games during the 2017 calendar.
"Thank you to Mike Aresco and the American Athletic Conference staff for their hard work in helping us reschedule this important game," UCF head coach Scott Frost said in a statement. "I greatly appreciate the willingness of all the parties involved to jump in and come up with a creative solution."
As a result of the decision, both teams will have to cancel previously scheduled non-conference games against Georgia State and Maine. While UCF and Memphis will have to pay cancellation fees, it's likely that those penalties will be covered by the American Athletic Conference.
The Knights and Tigers were originally scheduled to square off Sept. 9, but brought the game forward a day to avoid Hurricane Irma. The Tigers had already boarded the plane to Orlando when the contest was ultimately canceled and were forced to immediately turn around upon landing.
While many other schools that saw their games canceled due to Irma won't be rescheduling, the fact that this contest was a conference game made it imperative to find a make-up date.
