Virginia Tech and West Virginia have chosen honorary captains worthy of their blockbuster showdown Sept. 3: legendary coaches Frank Beamer and Don Nehlen.

Beamer retired from the Hokies in 2015 as the winningest active coach in FBS history, while Nehlen compiled an incredible 149-93-4 record during his 21 seasons with the Mountaineers.

"Don Nehlen remains one of my all-time favorite people," Beamer said. "I'm so honored that I'll get to join Coach Nehlen on the field as our two teams meet again."

Nehlen said, "I have all the respect in the world for Frank Beamer. Not only is he a class man and a great friend, he did an unbelievable job at Virginia Tech and took that program to its greatest period of success."

In 14 meetings between the two coaches' programs, Beamer and Virginia Tech emerged victorious with a 9-5 record.
