It's not uncommon for high-profile teams to pay big bucks to host certain opponents, but Liberty doesn't fit that bill.

That's why it's surprising to hear the Flames are dishing out $1.32 million to host Old Dominion. According to records obtained by Harry Minium of The Virginian-Pilot, Liberty and Old Dominion agreed on the deal to open the 2018 campaign.

"It was difficult to complete our schedule, and we appreciate that Old Dominion worked with us," Flames athletic director Ian McCaw said.

McCaw noted Liberty is getting the money from a game contract with a Power 5 school worth "upwards of seven figures." He didn't specify the team, but it's worth noting Liberty will travel to Virginia and Auburn later on in the year.

The 2018 season will mark the first for Liberty in the FBS.

That's not a bad payday for Old Dominion to make the three-and-a-half-hour trip.
