Baylor adds Tennessee transfer Jalen Hurd

Randy Sartin / USA TODAY Sports

Baylor added one of the most explosive players on the transfer market Saturday, as former Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd committed to the Bears.

Hurd turned in one of the most successful seasons for a Tennessee running back in recent memory during his sophomore campaign in 2015, rushing for 1,288 yards - the seventh-most in program history. His decision to transfer came as a surprise to many, as he's just over 400 yards from being the school's all-time leading rusher.

Hurd will move to wide receiver at Baylor, a position to which he projects better in the NFL than running back, according to Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports. In his three years with the Volunteers, Hurd caught 67 passes for 492 yards and six touchdowns.

As per NCAA transfer regulations, Hurd won't be eligible to play until the 2018 season, but regardless, Matt Rhule has made the first big splash of his Baylor career with the transfer.
