Surprise! Alabama remains favored to win the NCAA title again

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Westgate Las Vegas Superbook released its latest NCAA championship odds on Monday and to nobody's surprise Alabama remains the favorite to win the title.

The Crimson Tide currently sit at 7/2 to win their fifth national championship under Nick Saban, moving slightly from the 3/1 favorite they opened at earlier in the offseason.

The hype around star quarterback Sam Darnold has moved USC from 8/1 to 7/1 to win the title, placing them alone in the No. 2 spot behind Alabama. Oklahoma, Florida State and Ohio State round out the top-5, all listed at 8/1.

Here's the list of the top teams on the board:

Team Current odds Opening odds
Alabama 7/2 3/1
USC 7/1 8/1
Oklahoma 8/1 8/1
Florida State 8/1 8/1
Ohio State 8/1 8/1
Michigan 12/1 12/1
LSU 15/1 12/1
Clemson 15/1 20/1
Louisville 15/1 10/1
Texas 20/1 20/1
Penn State 20/1 25/1
Auburn 20/1 25/1

Defending champions Clemson lose a ton of players across the board, including star quarterback Deshaun Watson, but are still one of the top bets at 15/1, while LSU dropped from 12/1 to 15/1.

Oddsmakers are putting a lot of faith in Tom Herman as he begins his first season as Texas' head coach, listing the Longhorns at 20/1 despite coming off three straight seven-loss campaigns.

Penn State is attracting attention in the other direction, as the Nittany Lions moved to 20/1 from 25/1, mostly due to a strong returning cast including Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley.

A team outside the top listings that might be worth a small wager is Wisconsin. The Badgers currently sit 80/1 to win the national title, but have a very favorable schedule in 2017 that should play to their benefit. Paul Chryst's outfit avoids Penn State and Ohio State in the Big Ten crossover, and gets to host Michigan in their biggest game of the season.
