Mike Gundy: Sugar Bowl loss to Ole Miss was 'uneven playing field'

Mike Gundy is wondering what might have been.

The Oklahoma State head coach saw his team lose to Ole Miss at the end of the 2015 campaign in the Sugar Bowl, and with the recent allegations against the Rebels, Gundy is wondering if on an even playing field things would have been different.

"We’ll never know what we could have done in the Sugar Bowl if it was a level playing field," Gundy told Bill Haisten of the Tulsa World. "That is the truth. I’m not sure we would have won the Sugar Bowl, but we’ll never know."

Ole Miss received an amended notice of allegations this week, that included 15 registered at Level I. Among the accusations are arranging payments to potential recruits, providing false information to the NCAA, and lack of institutional control.

The program announced a self-imposed bowl ban for the 2017 campaign, despite head coach Hugh Freeze denying a lack of institutional control.

The Cowboys were handed a sound 48-20 defeat by Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl, something Gundy would be fine with if everything was even.

"We didn’t all play by the same rules," Gundy added. "If everybody is playing by the rules and you get your butt kicked, that’s OK. I can live with that. But when it’s an uneven playing field, that’s not fair."
