Auburn was king of the state of Alabama for much of the 2000s, winning 80 games from 2000-08, including an undefeated season in 2004.

During those nine years under head coach Tommy Tuberville, the Tigers won five SEC West Titles and, more importantly, seven Iron Bowls over rival Alabama, including six straight from 2002-07.

Now, Tuberville is hoping that success will translate into him taking residence in the Governor's Mansion, as the 62-year old is exploring running for public office.

"I’ve been flattered people have come to me and ask me to think about it and that’s what I’m going to do for a few weeks, and I’ve got several things going - television, radio, and I might stay in athletics," Tuberville told Brandon Marcello of Auburn Undercover. "Right now I’m just kinda looking to see what fits me the best."

Tuberville's camp is currently conducting a statewide phone poll involving roughly 50,000 people that will determine whether a successful campaign could be had, according to Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports.

"Let’s test the wind and see what people think and then we’ll make a decision some time in April," Tuberville said.

In a state that views football as religion, whether Tuberville can appear favorable to Crimson Tide fans will be one of the biggest hurdles for the unemployed coach to clear.
