High school fires coach who said Alabama wasn't welcome on campus

Parkway High School in Louisiana has fired head coach David Feaster after he said Alabama wasn't welcome on campus because of unethical recruiting practices, according to Roy Lang III of The Shreveport Times.

"Coach Feaster and I do not share the same philosophy or vision for Parkway High School athletics," principal Waylon Bates said in a statement.

Feaster made the comments in a radio appearance Wednesday.

"LSU's welcome in my school anytime," Feaster said. "The only school that can't come to Parkway is Alabama. And there's a long story behind that, but it had to do with not being ethical in their recruiting."

Those comments seemed to cross the line for Parkway Bates and school officials, who felt Feaster was "not the spokesperson of Parkway High School."

"Most people are going to say 'Feaster just ran his mouth,' but (Parkway) made it clear to me why they fired me," Feaster said. "They can say what they want to about Alabama, but (Bates) cited me for insubordination. He said, 'You should have checked with me before you banned Alabama.'

"I said, 'That was four years ago, you weren’t even the principal here.' But he said I brought so much negative publicity to the school I had to go."

Feaster's issue dates back to Nick Saban's recruitment of Parkway quarterback Brandon Harris, who ultimately signed with LSU before transferring.

"I will never allow Alabama in our field house ever again," Feaster said in November 2015.

This time, his comments drew national attention, which bothered school officials and marked what the administration called the "third or fourth" time Feaster had said or done something controversial.

"I guess Nick Saban won this round," Feaster told Matt Hayes of Bleacher Report when reached for comment.

Feaster spent six years as head coach at Parkway. Outside of his first year, the Panthers never lost more than two games in a season, and he took them to the state title game in 2013.
