Report: Father of top QB recruit joining Oregon's staff, not Michigan's

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

A delay in a new NCAA rule appears to be Michigan's loss and Oregon's gain.

It was widely expected the NCAA would pass new legislation allowing for a 10th assistant coaching staffs starting in April, but it seems that decision will be delayed until 2018.

That ruling seems to have put a dent in Michigan's plan to hire former 49ers assistant and UCLA offensive coordinator Michael Johnson, the father of top 2019 quarterback recruit Michael Johnson Jr.

Now, Johnson Sr. is reportedly on his way back to the West Coast as Oregon's new wide receivers coach, according to Sam Webb of Michigan Insider.

Former Ducks wide receivers coach Jimmie Dougherty left for the same position with UCLA on Feb. 8.

This makes ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum's tirade against Jim Harbaugh for hiring a top recruits' father all for naught, as well as Harbaugh's tweet in response.
