Report: Alabama identifies Patriots' Daboll as top OC candidate

Marvin Gentry / US PRESSWIRE

New England Patriots tight ends coach Brian Daboll has emerged as the top candidate to occupy Alabama's vacant offensive coordinator position, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

Daboll reportedly interviewed for the job earlier in the week, though it's not clear if he's intent on accepting a potential offer to join Nick Saban's staff.

Alabama is looking to fill the coaching void left by Steve Sarkisian, who was named the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator shortly after the Super Bowl.

Daboll has bounced around the NFL, acquiring experience as an offensive coordinator with three teams, most recently with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012.

Former Houston Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey and current Crimson Tide offensive analyst Mike Locksley have also been mentioned as potential candidates.
