Harbaugh hires former UCLA OC, father of top 2019 QB

Jim Harbaugh added another member to his coaching staff Monday, one with an interesting recruiting connection.

Former San Francisco 49ers and UCLA offensive coordinator Michael Johnson has agreed to join Harbaugh at Michigan and leave his current role as head football coach at The King's Academy High School in Sunnyvale, Calif., the high school announced Monday.

Johnson not only brings a wealth of experience to Harbaugh's staff, but also a direct connection with the top-rated dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 class.

That quarterback happens to be Johnson's son, Michael Johnson Jr.

According to a proposal from the NCAA, the employment of a particular recruit's high school coach within two years of the recruit's enrollment will become illegal if said proposal is enacted, according to Nick Baumgardner of Mlive.com.

With most 2019 recruits expected to enroll in the summer of that year, Johnson Jr. would be free and clear of any violations should the NCAA decide to accept the proposal.

This is also not the first time Harbaugh has hired the high school coach of a highly touted recruit to his staff. One only need think back to the commitment of former No. 1 overall recruit Rashan Gary and the subsequent hiring of current linebackers coach and special teams coordinator Chris Partridge, who coached Gary at Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey.
