Auburn names Porter assistant coach, recruiting coordinator

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) Auburn has hired Larry Porter to coach tight ends and H-backs and to serve as recruiting coordinator.

Tigers coach Gus Malzahn announced Saturday that Porter had been hired to replace Scott Fountain. Porter spent the past three years as North Carolina's running backs coach and special teams coordinator.

The 21-year coaching veteran also has worked at Texas, Arizona State, LSU, Memphis and Oklahoma.

Malzahn calls Porter ''one of the top recruiters in the country.''

Auburn running backs coach Tim Horton will take over Fountain's role as special teams coordinator.
