Watch: Ohio State reloads secondary with 5-star studs Wade, Okudah

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps no school was hit harder by early NFL draft declarations than Ohio State, but as Urban Meyer has shown many times, the Buckeyes don't regress, they just reload.

The secondary was particularly ravaged as Malik Hooker, Marshon Lattimore, and Gareon Conley all left school early for the professional ranks, but Meyer quickly addressed that hole with a pair of five-star recruits.

Shaun Wade and Jeffrey Okudah come to Columbus from Florida and Texas, respectively, and are both ranked No. 1 at their positions in the class of 2017.

Here's a look at the latest 5-star defenders that Ohio State will unleash on the Big Ten:

Shaun Wade

Position: CB
ESPN Position Rank: 1 (5-star, 91/100)
Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla.
School: Trinity Christian Academy
Height: 6-1
Weight: 177 lbs.

Wade actually committed to Ohio State two years ago after the Buckeyes defeated Oregon to win the national championship. The Florida native has held his pledge the entire time, and enrolled early in Columbus to get a head start with spring training. Pulling Wade out of Florida was a massive win for Meyer, and will immediately help to plug the hole left by Lattimore's and Conley's departures. The 6-foot-1, 177-pounder is extremely long for the position, and after he adds some bulk, should be the next lockdown corner for the Buckeyes.

Jeffrey Okudah

Position: S
ESPN Position Rank: 1 (5-star, 91/100)
Hometown: Grand Prairie, Tex.
School: South Grand Prairie High School
Height: 6-2
Weight: 197 lbs.

Okudah is one of the most athletic players in the class of 2017, seeing time on both offense and defense in high school. While he dominated both sides of the ball, he will line up at safety for the Buckeyes and could start right away in his true freshman season. At 6-foot-2, 197 pounds, Okudah has great size for a safety at both the collegiate, and professional level, and should immediately shore up the back end of Meyer's defense.

Others

While Wade and Okudah may be the crown jewels of Meyer's class in the secondary, the rest of the defensive backs are loaded as well. The Buckeyes brought in a total of six four-star recruits or better at the position group, with all six ranking among the top-300 overall prospects in the country. The other four commits are:

Name Position Position Rank Overall Rank
Isaiah Pryor S 3 45
Kendall Sheffield CB 1 (JUCO) 4th (JUCO)
Amir Riep CB 12 139
Marcus Williamson CB 24 259
