Auburn names Chip Lindsey offensive coordinator

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn's new offensive coordinator will be Chip Lindsey, as the Tigers confirmed Saturday they've poached the Arizona State mastermind from the desert.

Lindsey will reunite with Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn, whom he served as an offensive analyst on the 2013 Auburn team that reached the BCS National Championship.

Lindsey spent this season leading the nation's 40th-ranked scoring offense at Arizona State. He'll take over for Rhett Lashlee, who vacated the post to join UConn's coaching staff.

In addition to his reputation as a strong play-caller, Lindsey is regarded as an excellent recruiter, and recently convinced former Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett to transfer to the Sun Devils.

Lindsey is now tasked with turning around the SEC's worst-ranked passing offense.

Auburn posted an 8-5 record this season, but finished the campaign with a blowout loss to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
