The Power 5 conferences passed a new rule Friday that bans off-campus practices during a vacation period outside the season, according to USA TODAY Sports' Dan Wolken.

The new legislation - known as the "Michigan rule" - comes a year after Jim Harbaugh took his team to Florida for spring practice. The Wolverines were stationed at IMG Academy in Bradenton, one of the most talent-rich football high schools in the country, to the chagrin of several other coaches and programs.

The proposed rule passed by a 58-22 tally, and Big Ten schools voted 11-3 in favor of implementing the ban.

Michigan, obviously, voted against the ban.

"The rule didn't get proposed until after we took the football team down to Florida for spring break, so I think you can read into that as you will," athletic director Warde Manuel told Mitch Sherman of ESPN.
