Virginia Tech's McKenzie to pursue graduate transfer

Virginia Tech's Shai McKenzie will play his final collegiate season elsewhere, as the Hokies running back announced Thursday he's pursuing a graduate transfer.

"After much thought and talking with my family, I have decided to graduate this summer from Virginia Tech and finish my eligibility at another Division I university with high hopes of earning a Masters degree," McKenzie said on Twitter. "I believe this decision is the best for my family and myself at this time."

McKenzie's career with the Hokies was riddled with injuries, with his best season coming in his freshman campaign in 2014. The 5-foot-11, 215-pounder ran for 269 yards and three touchdowns in that season.

Last year under new coach Justin Fuente, McKenzie rushed the ball 20 times for 76 yards and one touchdown.

Provided he graduates this year, he will be eligible immediately under NCAA graduate transfer regulations.
