South Florida names Sterlin Gilbert offensive coordinator

South Florida didn't go without an offensive coordinator for long, as the Bulls confirmed Thursday the hiring of Sterlin Gilbert to the position.

The move reunited Gilbert with head coach Charlie Strong, with whom he worked with last season in Austin.

"Sterlin has put together a tremendous track record of developing players and producing highly productive offenses that build his players' strengths," Strong said in a statement. "He's young and passionate about his players and the game of football. We are excited to have Sterlin on our Bulls staff and to have him working with the very talented players we have at South Florida."

This past season, the Longhorns' offense was ranked No. 66 in the nation in efficiency, as the program struggled to improve on its previous campaigns. A change of scenery, however, could provide Gilbert a new lease on life in college football, as he has five total years of service as an offensive coordinator wit stints at Eastern Illinois, Bowling Green, Tulsa, and Texas.
