Auburn's Carl Lawson skipping senior season for NFL

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn's star defensive end Carl Lawson announced Wednesday he's skipping his senior season with the Tigers to enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

"Thank you to the whole AU family for your love and support," Lawson wrote on Twitter. "Please send prayers my way as I embark on this new journey to the NFL."

Lawson came to Auburn as the No. 2 recruit in the country for the class of 2013, but suffered through injuries in his first two seasons. He was a monster on the Auburn defensive line in 2016, leading the team with nine sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has Lawson ranked as the eighth-best defensive end in a very talent-heavy draft class at the position.
